Savannah's Art of Being a Cat - The Perfect Nap

Savannah has perfected something I’ve spent most of my life feeling guilty about.
The nap.
Not the “I’ll just close my eyes for a minute but actually scroll my phone” kind.
Not the “I probably shouldn’t be doing this” kind.
No.
Savannah naps like it’s her purpose.
This morning, I looked over and saw her stretched out on the chair by the window. One tiny paw draped over the edge like she had simply… let go. Her face pressed into the soft cushion, completely at peace. The light coming in behind her made everything feel quieter somehow, like the world itself had agreed to pause with her.
She wasn’t thinking about what needed to get done. She wasn’t wondering if she deserved this moment.
She was just… resting.

The thing… She didn’t earn that nap. She didn’t check anything off a list. She didn’t finish a project. She didn’t ask for permission. She just needed it.
She had been running around all morning at full speed - Jim came up with the phrase
"All Gas - No Brakes" which describes her perfectly! Until she stops.
At some point early in life, I thought you had to deserve a nap.
That naps were for when you’re sick. Or exhausted. Or “caught up.”
Otherwise, they fall into that dangerous category we call laziness.
But watching Savannah, I’m realizing we got that completely wrong.
Savannah doesn’t wake up groggy or guilty. She wakes up refreshed, alert, and immediately ready to be curious again. To investigate shoelaces. To chase shadows. To explore her tiny, magical world. All Gas - No Brakes
Her rest fuels her life. It doesn’t take away from it.
A lot of us tend to push through. We stay on override. We tell ourselves we’ll rest later.
But later keeps moving.
Eventually, our bodies find ways to force the pause we’ve been avoiding.
Burnout.Exhaustion.Disconnection.
Not because we’re weak… But because we ignored something essential.
Savannah doesn’t ignore it. She listens.
To her energy. To her body.To that quiet internal signal that says, it’s time.
So she naps without guilt.

Can you imagine what would change if we did the same?
If we allowed ourselves ten minutes in the sun…An afternoon reset…A moment to simply be still…
Maybe the perfect nap isn’t about sleep at all.
Maybe it’s about trust.
Trust that it’s safe to pause. Trust that we don’t have to prove our worth before we rest. Trust that taking care of ourselves is not laziness…
It’s wisdom.
Savannah seems to know that.
And honestly…I think she might be onto something.
Love to all. I'm going to go take a nap!
