Times, they are a changing…

I tried to come up with one word that describes everything that has been happening over the past month. I was sure I would find some fancy word that would sum up the emotions and the events and make it sound fancy. Well, that didn’t happen. The only word that truly summarizes our past month is CHANGE.
CHANGE: /CHānj/ the act or instance of making or becoming different.
This describes my month exactly.
The beginning of the month brought the last minute chaos of getting Minigan’s Chicken Ranch ready to be sold. The closing date was August 2nd. We managed to get everything done in time to spend the night of August 1st in Washington, Mo at our favorite spot, The Old Dutch Hotel and Tavern. We enjoyed a great dinner with great friends, and spent the night in the hotel. This was the first place we found when we first started looking for a home in the area so it seemed appropriate to say goodbye from there.
The day of closing I took a nice walk around the property with Felix. We had a really nice time, and I was able to say goodbye. We walked through the woods, finding all the little treasures we’d placed there over the time we lived here. We walked around the pond and watched all the frogs jumping into the water from the shore. And we walked past the chicken coop. Ahhh, the chicken coop. I definitely miss our chickens. After closing, Felix and I made the drive to our new home. Nashville.
Since then, life has been a whirlwind. I’m only able to see Jim a few days a week. I make sure to be in Nashville on weekends. I still have responsibilities in St. Louis though, so I am traveling back and forth each week. And Jim is still traveling a lot for work.
I try to spend time with the cats as much as possible as well. They are not used to being in a house 24/7. Shelby has gotten to where she will go outside for a bit. She never tries to leave the yard. Felix is another story. Since he thinks he is a dog, he wants to run everywhere. I have been training him to walk on a leash. He is NOT happy. At least he gets to go outside for a while.
Throughout the month, I’m still quite busy in St. Louis. I’ve volunteered at the St. Louis Area Foodbank, was interviewed on TV (Channel 2) for the American Cancer Society, spent an evening at Kendra Scott with my fellow Portraits of Hope women with the American Cancer Society, had my second post-cancer bloodwork done, (NO EVIDENCE OF CANCER!!), and had a dentist appointment. We’re also very busy adventuring in Nashville as well. We went to a ballgame with the Nashville CBRE office and watched the Nashville Sounds bring home a winner, explored a couple of state parks with Jim (Cedars of Lebanon, Radnor and LongHunter State Park), went to the Wilson County Fair (redneckery), tried other new dinner spots, and a million other little things in between. But especially, visited the house many times and watched the progress of it being finished for us.
I am exhausted and we are having a blast! The house in Mt. Juliet is almost complete. We close on it a week from tomorrow. I can’t wait to be in our own home again!
Life is surely changing. I wasn’t sure how I would adjust. I love it! There are so many things to do here and we have already met so many great people. It’s a different lifestyle down here and it’s one that I have quickly adjusted to. And oh, by the way………………… I HAVE A JOB!
