Clean Closet, Clear Mind - The Art of Letting Go
Recently, I heard a podcast by Ed Mylett talking about cleaning out his closet. It was titled Time for a Life Inventory - What Stays and What Goes? A couple of weeks ago, I did my own springtime closet cleanout. And there really is something deeply symbolic about cleaning out your closet.
Just like my closet, our inner self can get piled with things we’ve outgrown, emotions that no longer serve us, and beliefs we’ve carried far too long. If you’ve ever stood in front of your closet and said, “Why am I still holding on to this?” "I can't believe I ever wore that" —you’ve already taken the first step in your inner journey, too.
Let’s have fun and go through this journey together:
1. Make a pile of the things that no longer fit and throw them out!
Whether it's an old pair of jeans or an old belief, if it no longer fits who you are today, it's time to let it go.
Maybe it’s a habit of overworking to prove your worth.
Maybe it's a relationship.
Or a story you’ve told yourself about who you have to be to feel loved.
Just like clothing sizes change, so do we. Honor where you are now.
2. Make room for what's new.
You can’t welcome new energy, new opportunities, or new insights if your closet is overflowing.
When you get rid of the old, you create space for the new.
When you empty out fear, love has more room to settle in.
It’s okay to dream about a “new wardrobe” for your inner self—full of peace, purpose, and presence.
3. Be Willing to Donate or Toss
Some of what you’ve learned can help others.
Share your stories, your healing, your wisdom.
Let someone else benefit from what you’ve carried.
And other things? You just toss. Not everything needs to be shared. Some pain and patterns are ready to be released with grace.
5. Keep what still serves you
Not everything goes. Some things still serve you beautifully.
Boundaries you’ve built.
Strength you’ve earned.
Passions that still light you up.
Put them in their rightful place. Celebrate them. Use them with intention.
Love to all!
