Deep Thoughts for a Cloudy Morning

Fall is, and always has been, my favorite time of year. It feels like it’s running a little late this year, though.
Technically, summer hasn’t gone anywhere yet. It’s still in the 90s outside. But if you look closely, the trees seem to know it's time.
A few leaves have started turning brown. Then there are some that are fading from their deep "summer green". And there are already some that are scattered on the ground—the ones that have let go.
Fall IS coming. 🩶
The trees aren’t fighting it. They are embracing the change.
They aren’t desperately hanging onto August, wondering why things can’t stay exactly as they were. They don’t look at the tree beside them and think, Well, she’s still green. What the hell is happening to me?
They just change.
(You know I'm going to say there’s a lesson in that, right?)
Life is a series of seasons, although I’m not sure I realized that until I had lived through quite a few of them.
People come into our lives. People leave.
We fall in love. We make friends. We lose touch with people we thought would always be there.
Pets come into our lives. They take up an enormous amount of space in our hearts and when they leave, the house feels different. The silence feels different. We feel different.
Jobs come and go. Homes change. Children grow up. Dreams change.
Sometimes the life we thought we were building turns out not to be the life we will actually live.
Change can be amazing and thrilling. And change can hurt like hell.
But wishing the trees would stay green doesn’t stop the seasons. It only keeps us standing in yesterday.
Without letting go, there would be no room for anything new.
New relationships. New adventures. New dreams. New versions of ourselves.
Some of the things I desperately wanted to hold onto weren’t meant to travel with me forever.
That doesn’t make them meaningless.
A person can be important to your story without being in every chapter.
A pet can leave paw prints on your heart long after you stop hearing their footsteps in the hallway.
A job can teach you something even after you’ve outgrown it.
Nothing has to last forever to have mattered.
Every season has its purpose.
There will be seasons when we bloom bright and seasons when we lose our leaves. There will be seasons when everything feels dormant and we have no idea what comes next.
And then, something green pushes through the ground.
Today, some trees are still green. Some are turning brown. Some have already started letting go. I can't wait to see the ones that stay and turn red, orange and yellow!
None of them are behind though. None of them are ahead.
They’re simply becoming what this season asks of them.
Have a lovely day everyone! Much love to all! 🩶
