Falling for Fall

Fall is here!

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Although the leaves have just barely begun to change here in Tennessee, Fall is already in the air. I can feel it and I can smell it. I'm so happy to see you again, my friend.

I was thinking this morning of all the reasons this is my favorite time of year. I thought I would share some of these and see if you agree. Or maybe you have others that I haven't even thought of!

  • Beautiful Foliage: The vibrant colors of leaves turning from green to a million shades of red, orange, and yellow. They create the most beautiful landscapes and can turn any photo into a masterpiece.

  • The Crisp Air: When the temperatures start to cool off, it's like opening a bottle of fresh air. Although I do love summer and the heat that comes with it, the freshness of Fall air brings me to life!

  • Cozy, Comfy, Clothing: Time to bring out the sweaters, scarves, and boots! Fall allows you the excuse to wear comfy, large clothing. A sweaters, a pair of jeans and a good pair of boots make for a stylish look. Add a nice scarf and you're all set! Best of all, cuddling with Jim under a nice big blanket!

  • Pumpkins: I know a lot of you like pumpkin spice anything. I have never acquired a taste for that flavor. However, I do love to have pumpkins on my porch. Or in my yard. I also like baking the pumpkin seeds once I am done with the pumpkins as decorations. Jim, Jaimey and I have made MANY different flavored pumpkin seeds.

  • Harvest Festivals: Many communities hold harvest festivals featuring local produce, crafts, and fun activities. One I miss dearly is the Farm to Table dinner held in Washington, MO. They line tables up and down the main street and have food and drinks from local merchants. It is always such a magical night.

  • Football Season: Believe it or not, I love football. I had no idea what football was all about until I met Jim but now I look forward to it every year.

  • Candle Season: Fall is perfect for lighting candles with warm scents like cinnamon, apple, and vanilla. You can smell it everywhere and it is wonderful.

  • Hiking/Camping: The change in season brings a completely different setting for hiking or camping. The air is different, the sounds are different and the scenery is especially different. You can watch the leaves changing from day to day. You can hear the sound of the leaves that have already fallen under your feet as you hike. And it's not so hot that you can't really enjoy the hike. Or the quiet sound of Fall as you float down a river.

  • Firepits/Bonfires: This is the perfect time for fires. Little fires, big fires, it doesn't matter. Sitting around a fire is hypnotizing. Whether it's in my back yard, a campsite, or a large gathering of people, fires are a favorite of mind. The smell, the crackling, and the color of the flames. Especially if we are sitting at our favorite brewery in Sparta, TN or a winery with friends! Calfkiller Brewery. Sitting outside with a chill in the air, around a firepit, drinking a beer and making new friends. Life is good.

  • Comfort Food: Fall food is like opening a closet of new clothes. There are so many foods I don't eat during the Spring and Summer. When Fall comes around, I am so excited to have them back in my life. Warm soup with bread. Chilli with crackers and cheese. Hot chocolate or cocoa. Chicken Curry. (I'm making myself hungry)

So those are a few of my reasons for loving Fall so much. I hope some of my reasons brought back good memories to you. I'm sure each of you have your own reasons.

Hope every one of you has a great Fall!

Ruthie
